FRP module homes that have served 35 years in Antarctica

The clearest proof of how durable FRP is comes from Antarctica.

Igloo Satellite Cabins made by the Australian company of the same name — often called Apple Huts — have sheltered Antarctic research teams since the 1980s and remain in use today. Their walls are a 60 mm FRP + PU + FRP sandwich, and each cabin is about 3 metres across.

The wall of a Smart Eco Ger is thicker still, at 100 mm. FRP and composite materials are also widely used in Arctic research stations and geodesic dome housing — anywhere the environment is extreme.

That track record is exactly why we chose this material for Mongolian winters of −45°C and winds of 20–30 m/s.
